Joshua Punnoose
Josh graduated with a degree in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 2017. Since then, he has worked on evaluating photoacoustic lifetime imaging (PALI) to improve photodynamic therapy efficacy in squamous cell carcinomas. He has conducted in vitro tests and plans to evaluate PALI in an in vivo setting. His research interests include: translation of medical imaging technologies, ultrasound/photoacoustic imaging, and image processing.
Supriya Thathachary
Supriya completed her Bachelor's (MSRIT, Bangalore, India) and Master's (Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, India) degrees in Electrical Engineering before joining the lab as a PhD student in 2014. She has been working on fabricating and characterizing a miniature fiber optic ultrasound detector. The goal of her project is to combine all optical ultrasound detection with optical illumination to create a needle-based photoacoustic probe. Her research interests include the instrumentation, fabrication, and characterization of imaging tools for interventional procedures.
Yixuan Liu
Yixuan is an undergraduate researcher at the lab since July 2018 working on developing a method to fabricate an ultrasonic transducer. He is also helping to characterize a new annular ultrasound array. His research interests include building/testing/studying devices related to biomedical imaging.
Alumni
Graduate
Mohammad Amin Tadayon (Graduated 2015)
Amin was a PhD student at the lab and worked on the development of miniaturized optical resonator for high frequency ultrasound imaging. Currently, he is working as a senior photonics design Engineer at Fluke Corporation and the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Saurabh Eknath Kotian (Graduated 2018)
Saurabh was an M.S. student who worked on the design and development of the sequence algorithm for a Verasonics ultrasound unit and integrating it with Opotek lasers. He also performed real-time photoacoustic imaging on phantoms such as metallic wires, methylene blue tubes, and porcine kidneys. He is currently working as a Biomedical Engineer at Endovantage LLC and is responsible for developing the Endovantage brain aneurysm treatment software suite and leading other projects related to the software suite.
Qi Shao (Graduated 2016)
Ekaterina Morgounova Ippolito (Graduated 2017)
Ankit Rakesh Chadha
Clay Sheaff (Graduated 2015)
Undergraduate
Cameron Motameni
Cameron was an undergraduate researcher who worked on setting up assemblies to fabricate optical fiber-based ultrasound detectors. He currently works at Abbott as a R&D - Process Development Engineer, and his work involves the creation of builds, prototypes, and pilot lines for a catheter that is currently in development, as well as the qualification of the installation and performance of equipment that is used during the manufacturing process.
Julia Van Luyk
Julia was an undergraduate researcher who worked on determining if a 1Hz frequency could be obtained using photoacoustics. She is currently a senior in BME and assists with research on cardiac valve diseases at the Visible Heart Lab.
